In short
DASK is the compulsory earthquake insurance run by the Turkish Natural Catastrophe Insurance Pool. It is a legal requirement for buildings within its scope, and the policy is requested during title transfer.
DASK covers material damage caused directly to the building by earthquake and by earthquake-related fire, explosion, tsunami and landslide. The cover is directed at the structure: load-bearing system, walls, roof, stairs, lift and foundations are within scope.
Knowing the policy's limits matters. DASK does not cover contents or damage inside the home, and the maximum sum insured is set by a ceiling updated each year. Optional home insurance is taken out separately for value above that ceiling. The policy attaches to the building and is updated in the new owner's name when the property is sold.
Why it matters to an investor
Antalya is not outside Turkey's earthquake reality. Beyond that the policy has a practical function: it is requested at title transfer and when setting up electricity and water accounts. A property without one meets an unexpected delay on the day of sale.
